Karen has been an instructor for 13 years and trained and qualified with Red. After going independent Karen relocated to Kent to be nearer to family. Karen joined Pass in February 2019.
Karen is also has an IAM Driving diploma. ( The examiner who passed Karen chauffeured The Queen Mother when she visited ‘The North’ !)
Karen is also a member of the DIA.

Just passed FIRST time with 0 faults and can’t thank Karen enough! She is a fantastic instructor and really helped build my driving confidence. Lessons are always friendly & relaxed. She made sure to clearly explain how to improve in areas where I was struggling and overall made me much more aware and confident as a driver. 10/10 !
Karen Heywood is the gold standard for driving instructors, 10 driving hours ago in tears, gripped by anxiety caused by a car accident that hospitalised me and apprehensive about who my driving instructor would be I met Karen. She never gets flustered , never looks nervous and remains calm under all circumstances, which is a gift to nervous learners. This contagious calm with her kind and guidance got me out driving on my own immediately after 10 years of not driving. Everyone needs a Karen!
I just passed my test last week and wanted to share this review of my experience learning with Karen in Folkestone: Learning to drive with Karen has been a very positive experience. After a bad encounter with a previous instructor, I quickly found that Karen was calm and clear in her teaching, and I looked forward to learning with her each week. Her patience and encouraging nature meant that I picked up everything faster than I even expected to, and I always felt comfortable asking questions if I didn’t understand something. After passing my test, I feel extremely confident in getting on the roads by myself which is all thanks to Karen’s great teaching! I couldn’t recommend Karen Heywood enough. For somebody who has dyspraxia and dyslexia- she was incredibly patient with me, non-judgmenta and a very friendly approach that always made me feel at ease every lesson. She enabled me to have confidence that I could drive and I could drive well, reassuring me and consistently giving me constructive criticism that I could understand and take on board. I don’t know what I would’ve done without her! Thank you so much.
