Having graduated with an Applied Science and Coaching Honours Degree, James spent 6 years working for ‘elite player and coaching’ for Kent County Cricket Club. He then went into teaching in 4 secondary schools and was recently an Assistant Headteacher focusing on student behaviour, safety and welfare .
James has been driving for 22 years.
James lives with his wife and son and enjoys sports, particularly playing cricket and golf.

I am extremely patient and have good communication skills. My prior experience of working with learners with a range of individual needs allows me to adapt my approach accordingly to get good results. I can remain calm in pressure situations.
Booked on behalf of my husband, and dealt with Gill who was so so helpful and lovely. My husband had James as an instructor who my husband got on well with and was calm, helpful and has recommended him for me when I get my license too! Really lovely family business, with amazing communication and great at keeping us in the loop with everything. Highly recommend.

So I've been struggling with Anxiety around doing a practical driving test for the past six years, and has caused me alot of stress over the years, When I started driving again with James (Medhurst) I genuinely believed I couldn't pass due to my anxiety and past experiences with practical driving tests. James somehow managed to get to through it last Monday and to be honest I'm still in shock over it. James was always very supportive and calm which helped alot during my lessons and explained things in a simple logical manner. And above all had trust in my ability and was able to cut though the anxiety for me which I don't thing I'd of been able to pass otherwise. In short I wanna say a huge thank you to James and that he has changed my life in a positive way as now I can progress in my life and do what I wanna do. Without his help I wouldn't be able to do that.
James is an excellent instructor. He frames things in really easy to understand ways, and is infinitely patient. He's brilliant at spotting weaker areas and helping you to develop them. On top of this, has a talent for helping develop confidence. He's also really friendly, open and approachable. I would highly recommend James to any new learner. 5 out of 5 Stars
Great experience with James Medhurst, Canterbury. He took on my son Hugh for refresher lessons when he came home from Uni, just two weeks before his second test. James gave him the clarity he needed to get his confidence back and he passed with just 3 minor errors. Wish he’d found James originally. Thanks so much, would highly recommend.
